Planning a visit in August? Here's the real picture of what the island's weather looks like this month — and how to make the most of it, rain or shine.

The Short Version

August is peak hot season on Koh Tao, with daytime highs around 30-31°C (86-88°F) and warm nights rarely dipping below 24-27°C. The sea stays a warm 29°C, so swimming, snorkeling, and diving are still very much on.

It's also one of the wetter months — expect rain on roughly a third of days, usually as short afternoon or evening storms rather than all-day rain. Winds pick up a little too, which can mean choppier seas and the occasional dive site swap, but the sun still shows up plenty in between.

What This Means for Your Days on the Island

- Mornings are your calmest, sunniest window — best for beach time, snorkeling, and diving before winds and cloud build through the day.

- Afternoons are prime time for a passing storm. Short, sharp, and usually gone within the hour.

- Evenings cool down just enough for a genuinely comfortable dinner outdoors.

How to Handle the Heat, Humidity, and the Odd Downpour

- Drink more water than feels necessary — August humidity is no joke.
